For us to win the war against this epidemic, cooperation between both the private and public sector is extremely essential. In 2006 Altech Autopage Cellular formed a partnership with Africaid, an NGO based in KZN, the focus of this partnership is community mobilisation against HIV/AIDS through the medium of football.
General Overview This exciting new partnership uses football as a medium to develop essential life skills to enhance HIV prevention. The programme uses each facet of the game, which is then interpreted to illustrate a valuable life skill. Boys and girls engage in professional football training exercises. After each exercise, they are brought back together around a picture flipchart on the field where the lessons from the training are interactively applied to life. Understanding a goal in football is easy but what about a goal in life? To score a goal in football you have to beat the defenders and the goalkeeper but what obstacles do you have to overcome in life to achieve your goals? How do you prevent HIV infection becoming your biggest obstacle in life? These are some of the questions that are explored by Altech Autopage Cellular and Africaid.
